Diann Shumate is a critically acclaimed singer who has been a fixture on the Phoenix music scene for many years. She has appeared at the House of Blues, Bobby Jones Show, and the Nash. Diann always puts on a dynamic show with amazing vocal range.

Bios

Diann Shumate – Vocals

Diann began singing in church choirs, recording studios and even writing and recording her own songs. Diann has performed at venues; such as the popular House of Blues in Hollywood, for Sunday Gospel brunches sang background vocals at studio sessions for Chaka kahan and Cheryl Lynn .. Back ground vocals for Sony Pictures. Dabbled in theater in NOHO California and at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Twin Palms Restaurant in Old town Pasadena and Newport Beachin California. The Nash in Phoenix.

Rich Brown – Guitar

Raised in a musical family and trumpet player father who employed his children as side-players, Rich began studying guitar and piano at age 10 leading to a degree in music from the University of South Dakota. Rich relocated to the San Francisco area in 1980, studied with guitar greats Warren Nunes, Joe Pass, and Bruce Forman. He played extensively throughout the bay area with local bassists Tim Enos and the Bill Berry Jazz Allstars.
Rich lead local Phoenix jazz contemporary band Ninety2West and opened for acts such as Chicago, Tower of Power and Richard Smith. During his performances Rich blends a variety of musical styles with traditional Jazz sounds. Blues, Be-bop, Latin, and Contemporary flavors are combined to create his unique guitar style.

John Burton – Bass

John started piano lessons at the early age and started playing bass at the age of 12. John was active in the music scene in his native state of Ohio, working with big bands, bar bands and wedding bands for many years. He has been performing with various jazz duos, trios and quartets in the Valley since relocating to Phoenix several years ago. 

Cliff Caines – Drums

Cliff Caines is an accomplished, professional drummer. He moved to Phoenix in 2019 from the NY Metro area where his early groups opened for acts such as James Brown, Kool and The Gang and The O’Jays. His musical adventures in NYC included everything from jazz gigs at the Bitter End…to off-Broadway theater…to opening for Meatloaf!
Cliff began studying drums when he was 10 years old. He was a Music Performance Major at Montclair State University where he studied orchestral and mallet percussion. He also studied jazz drumming with several teachers in the NYC area including Charlie Persip of the Dizzy Gillespie Band
He is also a regular at the Sunday night jam sessions at The Nash…Phoenix’s premiere jazz club.
